A gas range burner that doesn’t light can put a damper on dinner plans but, fortunately, there’s usually a simple fix. Why is my LG range burner not working? Dirty burner components may need a cleaning to allow gas to flow or ignite. Troubleshoot an LG gas stove burner not lighting with these problem-solving tips.

Three Common Causes for an LG Range Burner Not Working

Wondering how to fix a gas stove burner that won’t light? From checking the power sources to performing a thorough cleaning, some routine maintenance usually solves the problem. Here’s how to address the most common causes for an LG range burner not working.

Check Power & Gas Connections

Though your range uses gas as its heat source, the burners won’t light without electrical power. The igniter uses an electrical spark to light the gas, while electricity also powers other range functions.

Perform the following electrical and gas assessments when your LG gas stove burner won’t light:

  • Check the gas connection: If none of the burners ignite, make sure the stove is properly connected to your home’s gas supply. The valve on the gas supply must also be in the open position, allowing gas to flow.
  • Ensure that the stove is plugged in properly: Make sure the range’s electrical cord is fully plugged into a functioning outlet. Avoid using an extension cord to power the range, as it can’t safely transmit the voltage required.
  • Look for tripped breakers: Check for tripped breakers in your home’s circuit breaker box, repositioning any as needed.

How to Clean LG Gas Stove Burners

Gas range burners have multiple components that get dirty from spills, splashes or grease and food particles. This debris can clog the components, preventing gas from flowing or the igniter from sparking the gas. Monthly burner cleanings can prevent clogs and restore function when you find a gas stove burner not working properly.

Follow these steps to clean the burner cap and head, igniter and orifice spud:

Burner cap and head:

  1. Remove burner cap and head by lifting them straight up.
  2. Soak both parts in a solution of hot water and dish detergent for 20-30 minutes.
  3. Gently scrub stubborn stains with a toothbrush.
  4. Allow the cap and head to air dry completely before replacing.

Igniter:

  1. Remove burner cap and head.
  2. Gently brush with a soft-bristled toothbrush or soft cloth to remove debris.

Orifice spud:

  1. Remove burner cap and head.
  2. Gently scrub the orifice spud and its opening with a soft-bristled brush.
  3. Use tweezers to remove any clogs in the orifice opening.

LG Stove Igniter Failure

If you still find your LG range burner not working, chances are that the igniter, or spark electrode, has failed. When it receives an electrical charge, the igniter creates a spark, lighting the gas as it flows through the burner port. If the igniter’s spark is too weak, or it doesn’t spark at all, the burner won’t light.

How do you know if your LG stove igniter has failed? Observe it as it tries to light the burner. If it doesn’t produce a spark or the spark can’t ignite the gas, the igniter likely requires replacement.
